The Antietam Humane Society (AHS) is sponsoring a program in which specially suited dogs visit schools to encourage students to read to them. Apparently dogs make excellent listeners, and the children were so excited to share a few good books with the special guests. The idea for the visit actually came from one of our third grade students, Elysabeth Haugh. Elysabeth’s mother, Mrs. Andrea Haugh, is the director of AHS. Any opportunity to focus on reading and related skills is certainly a welcome one, and we’re very grateful for the idea and the visit.
Hudson, pictured, was a huge hit with the kids. The dogs are chosen for the program if they meet the following criteria: friendly, gentle, and housebroken. In addition, they are all adoptable, so do not be surprised if your child is asking for a new family pet as the program continues.
